What is Hypokalemia?

Hypokalemia is too little (hypo) potassium in the body. Hypokalemia can be identified with flattened T-waves, prominent U-waves and occasionally-widened QRS-waves. The treatment may include a controlled but rapid infusion of potassium. Giving IV potassium can be risky, therefore, make sure to administer the correct infusion standards.

  • Kidney disease/failure
  • Diuretics
  • DKA

  • ECG: Flattened T waves, Prominent U-waves
  • History: Diuretics

What is the Treatment for Hypokalemia?
